Linh Phuoc - An unique pagoda in Dalat

Linh Phuoc Pagoda is a famous destination for tourists in the Dalat. Around eight kilometers east of downtown Dalat, the pagoda at 120 Tu Phuoc Street near National Highway 20 surely captivates Buddhist followers and visitors as well since it has unique architecture.

The pagoda was carefully and skillfully built in a mosaic style from glass, pottery and glazed terracotta shards. Builders of the pagoda were mostly monks and nuns who took time to attach each and every shard from broken vases, dishes, bowls and other household items onto the entire pagoda structure.

This is why the 7,000-square-meter pagoda is locally known as Ve Chai (scrap).

It holds a couple of records, such as the tallest bell-tower (36 meters), the highest indoor concrete statue of Guan Yin, the biggest wooden statue of Bodhidharma, and other statues and carved items made from valuable and rare wood.

The Guan Yin statue was created from 650,000 strawflowers, a typical flower of Dalat. Measuring 18 meters in height, the statue has been recognized as an Asian record.

Another interesting aspect of Linh Phuoc Pagoda is a 300-meter-long tunnel where visitors can see the paintings telling a story about a young man who travels to hell to save his deceased mother. The story warns people of karma and leads them to show gratitude and filial piety to their parents.
